Matthew "Matt" Luzunaris (born March 6, 1989 in Margate , Florida ) is an American football player on the position of a center forward . He currently plays for the Rochester Rhinos in the third-highest division in North American football, the USL Professional Division (USL Pro).
Career
Youth and college
Luzunaris began his active career as a soccer player on the soccer team at West Boca Raton High School . In addition, Scott Gallagher Missouri was active in the youth soccer teams Boca Raton Juniors SC, Schulz Academy, St. Louis. He was also part of the Olympic Development Program. Before he moved to the University of Central Florida , he had a trial training at the English football club Newcastle United .
Europe
In January 2008, one year after his college debut, Luzunaris signed a contract with the Austrian second division club SC Schwanenstadt . He made his debut in professional football on March 14, 2008 in a 1-0 away win against the amateurs of FK Austria Wien , when he came on for Andreas Bammer in the 79th minute . For the Schwanenstädter he came to a total of nine missions until his departure in July 2008.
After the takeover of the club by the Magna Group and the renaming of the club to FC Magna Wiener Neustadt , he came on August 22 for a short assignment in the team. Two short appearances in the ÖFB Cup followed later . After his only game for Wiener Neustädter, he was awarded to SV Wienerberg in the Regionalliga Ost in August 2008 , where he was used the day after the move and also scored his first goal. Until his return to FC Magna in December 2008, Luzunaris completed ten games for the club, scoring five goals. In the winter break of the 2008/09 season he was back in the official squad of Wiener Neustädter, but was awarded to Brazil in January 2009 to the Botafogo FR , which is currently in the top Brazilian division, the Série A , settled.
In July 2009 Luzunaris returned to Austria. In the same month he signed a three-year contract with SK Rapid Vienna . For the time being, it will only be used by Rapid's amateurs in the third-class Regionalliga Ost.
The change would have taken place over a year and a half earlier, when Luzunaris was tested at Rapid's training camp in Belek and coach Peter Pacult and sports director Alfred Hörtnagl agreed to submit a contract to the American. A few hours before the transfer deadline, the transfer fee was suddenly driven up, so that the move to the federal capital failed.
Return to the USA
On March 25, 2011, Luzunaris was signed by the San Jose Earthquakes. He made his debut in the Major League Soccer franchise on April 9, 2012. Three months later, he was loaned to Orlando City . After the 2011 season moved to Orlando, where he scored 9 goals in 18 games in the 2012 season.
He has been active for the Rochester Rhinos since the 2013 season.
