Peter Pacult (born October 28, 1959 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian soccer player and current coach .

Player career

Stations in his career were the Floridsdorfer AC , Wiener Sport-Club (1981–1984), SK Rapid Wien (1984–1986), FC Swarovski Tirol (1986–1992), FC Stahl Linz (1992/93), TSV 1860 Munich (1993 -1995) and FK Austria Wien (1995/96). His greatest successes were the championships in 1989 and 1990 as well as the cup victories in 1985 and 1989. In 1991, together with Jean-Pierre Papin, he was the top scorer in the European Cup (6 goals). In 1985 he also reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup and rose to the German upper house in 1994 with the Munich Lions. In 1984 he was voted Footballer of the Year in Austria.

He completed 24 international matches for the Austrian national team and scored one goal.

Coaching career

Peter Pacult, 2009

After the end of his active career, he became assistant coach at TSV 1860 Munich and simultaneously trained the Lions' amateurs from 1996 to 1998 and from April 1, 2001 to June 30, 2001. From October 18, 2001 to 2003, he was Werner Lorant's head coach at the same club. From 2004 he was a coach at FC Kärnten . The collaboration ended on June 30, 2005.

On May 19, 2005, he scored the first goal in the stadium during the dress rehearsal for the official opening in Munich's Allianz Arena .

On December 28, 2005, he was hired as a coach at the second division Dynamo Dresden . On May 14, 2006 he was relegated to the regional league with Dynamo Dresden. After he had successfully started the regional league season with Dresden, he asked in September 2006 to terminate his contract.

Pacult was bought out of his contract with Dynamo Dresden, which was valid until 2007, and from that point on looked after the Rapid Vienna combat team. In Pacult's first season, Rapid reached fourth place, which meant entering the UI Cup . In the following season he reached the actual goal of the season via the UI Cup: the UEFA Cup. In the 2007/08 season he won the championship with Rapid at national level, and the 7-0 away win at runner-up FC Red Bull Salzburg also attracted international attention.

In the European Cup, on the other hand, no successes could be recorded for the time being, the targeted qualification for the group stage of the Champions League or the UEFA Cup was missed. In 2008/09 Rapid Wien was runner-up behind Red Bull Salzburg under Peter Pacult. In the summer of 2009 Pacult surprised when he changed his coaching team. Leopold Rotter became assistant trainer instead of Zoran Barisic and Manfred Kohlbacher replaced Peter Zajicek as goalkeeper trainer.

In the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons he made it into the group stage of the UEFA Europa League with SK Rapid . The English club Aston Villa was switched off twice.

After rumors about a future collaboration between Pacult and Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz and a conversation with Mateschitz became known at the beginning of April , the management of SK Rapid Wien terminated the contract with immediate effect on April 11th due to a “massive breach of trust”. Pacult went underground for a while and gave up a press conference to present his view of things.

For the 2011/12 season Pacult was the new head coach at RB Leipzig and thus successor to Tomas Oral . He signed a two-year contract. After the team under Pacult did not succeed in promotion to the 3rd division, he came under criticism in the environment. At the beginning of July 2012, RB Leipzig replaced Pacult with Alexander Zorniger , who was previously the trainer of SG Sonnenhof Großaspach .

On December 18, 2012 it was announced that Pacult will again work as a coach at Dynamo Dresden in the future . He became one of six coaches at Dynamo Dresden with several terms. He signed a contract until June 30, 2014, which was only valid for the 2nd Bundesliga. Dresden finished third from last in the final table of the 2012/13 season, but prevailed in the relegation against third-placed third division VfL Osnabrück and thus managed to stay in league, whereby Pacult's contract was automatically extended. After a failed start to the season with two points from the first four games and two home defeats within nine days, Pacult was given a leave of absence from Dynamo Dresden on August 18, 2013.

After a year and a half of unemployment, Pacult was hired as a coach on April 22, 2015 at the Austrian second division club Floridsdorfer AC, which had only been promoted in summer 2014 . While the FAC under Pacult managed to stay in the league during the 2014/15 season , the FAC recorded a negative run of ten defeats in a row in the new 2015/16 season . When the defeat in the ÖFB Cup against the Styrian national league club FC Lankowitz took place on September 23, 2015 - the eleventh loss in eleven competitive games - Pacult drew the consequences and resigned his coaching position on September 24, 2015.

On October 6, 2015 Pacult became the new coach of the Slovenian club NK Zavrč , but was released after two weeks.

On January 7, 2017 it was announced that Pacult would be the new coach of the Croatian first division club Cibalia Vinkovci , this cooperation was ended after five consecutive games without a win in March 2017.

On June 13, 2017 it was announced that Pacult has taken over the head coach position at the Serbian first division club FK Radnički Niš . However, he was released there at the beginning of September of the same year.

As a result, he was hired on January 3, 2018 for the Albanian first division club FK Kukësi . He was released there on July 13, 2018.

On March 8, 2019, Pacult became the coach of the Montenegrin first division football club OFK Titograd Podgorica. On June 14, 2019, they separated from the Viennese after only three months.

criticism

On April 8, 2012, Peter Pacult is said to have insulted an opposing fan with "gay pig" after the 2-1 victory of the RB Leipzig he trained against St. Pauli II , a picture editor testified to this anomaly. Thereupon Pacult was sentenced by the sports court of the DFB to a fine of 800 euros for unsportsmanlike conduct.
