Geir Frigård (born November 3, 1970 in Vormsund ) is a former Norwegian football player and current coach .

Career

society

Geir Frigård started his career with his hometown club Funnefoss / Vormsund . In his youth he also played for Løvenstad FK . He played his first professional games for Lillestrøm SK . However, he could not establish himself there and was finally given up after three seasons to Kongsvinger IL . There he replaced the top scorer Roar Kaasa . His performances in the UEFA Cup for Kongsvinger IL meant that he could try again from 1995 at Lillestrøm SK. His second attempt was marked by a few ups and downs. In 1997 he followed his trainer Per Brogeland to Austria for LASK . In his first season he was top scorer in Austria with 23 goals . In his second season in Austria he was still able to score ten goals in 20 games. Because of his achievements, he achieved cult status with the LASK fans ("Geir Frigård Football God "). His good performance fell into an economically difficult time for LASK, so that he had to be given up. So he moved to Germany for the equivalent of just over 1.5 million euros to Tennis Borussia Berlin , where it was the most expensive purchase in history at the time. However, he did not prevail either at Tennis Borussia Berlin or at CS Sedan , so that he returned to LASK in 2001. There he played a bigger role again. However, LASK was relegated this season, so that he left the club again after only one year and 15 goals scored. So he moved to Belgium to Lierse SK , where he stayed until 2004. Lierse SK was also his last post abroad. After a good season at Ham-Kam , he found himself on the bench and so he decided to end his career at Eidsvold Turn .

National team

He made his debut in a 2-1 defeat against the USA in a friendly international match on January 15, 1994. In the qualifier for the 1996 European Championship , he scored his only international goal on September 7, 1994 in a 1-0 win over Belarus .

Trainer

In 2008 he started as an assistant coach at Eidsvold Turn under Vegard Hokstad . Since the 2009 season he and his former coach Per Brogeland have been the coaching team at Eidsvold Turn.
