René Wagner (born October 31, 1972 in Brno ) is a former Czech football player and now coach .
Player career
society
René Wagner began his professional career at Boby Brno . He played for the club until 1996 before the striker was poached by the then Austrian champions Rapid Wien . Wagner soon became one of the club's most important players. In his first season for Rapid, he was the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 21 goals in 1996/97 .
In eight years in Hütteldorf he scored a total of 90 goals in 261 competitive games for the club, played in the Champions League and was Austrian runner-up four times. However, Wagner was denied a title win. In the summer of 2004 , Wagner finally switched to league rivals SV Mattersburg , as he was slowly being ousted by younger players.
In 2006 Wagner returned to 1. FC Brno , in June 2008 he ended his professional career. From 2008 to 2010 René Wagner played for SV Leobendorf in the 1st regional league of Lower Austria before ending his career as an active footballer in 2010 with the Czech fourth division club Sparta Brno .

René Wagner played a total of eleven international matches for the Czech Republic between 1995 and 2001 , scoring three goals.
Coaching career
After the end of his professional career, Wagner initially worked as an assistant in the B team of 1. FC Brno, then the former attacker initially looked after the club's B juniors, then the A youth. In January 2016, the Austrian second division club SC Wiener Neustadt announced that Wagner would be the assistant coach of Günter Kreissl . After Kreissl had signed a contract as the sporting director of the first division team SK Sturm Graz , Wagner became the head coach of Wiener Neustadt.
In May 2017, the Lower Austrians parted ways with Wagner.
