The Gauliga Ostmark 1939/40 (also sports area class Ostmark 1939/40 ) was the second season of the Gauliga Ostmark in annexed Austria. Compared to the previous season, the top division was reduced by two participants. The SK Rapid Wien prevailed and became Gaumeister Ostmark for the first time. Since it was later decided that the Gaumeistertitel also counted as a win of the Austrian football championship , this was Rapid Vienna's 13th win. By winning the Gaume Championship, Vienna was also qualified for the German football championship in 1939/40 . In this Rapid reached the semi-finals, which were lost against Dresdner SC with 1: 2 after extra time. In the subsequent game for third place, Vienna was able to prevail in the replay against Waldhof Mannheim .
For the coming season, the league was again enlarged to ten participants. The actual relegated SV Amateure Fiat Vienna joined the Floridsdorfer AC , which was promoted for the coming season .
