Gauliga Ostmark

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gauliga Ostmark (also sports area class 17 ), from 1941 Gauliga Donau-Alpenland , was a soccer sports area in the German Reich at the time of National Socialism .

General

The area class comprised the annexed areas of eastern Austria , southern Czechoslovakia and northern Yugoslavia from 1938 until the dissolution in 1945 . In the division class, one of the participants in the German football championship was played in the football league of the same name (also division league) . The clubs Tyrol were not part of this Gauliga but continued to play in the Tyrolean League of the football championship. In the first years after the Anschluss, a promotion right to the Gauliga Bayern was provided, but no use was made of this. Clubs from Vorarlberg also continued to play the local championship , which was expanded to include German clubs around Lake Constance . From this league there was a right of promotion to Gauliga Württemberg .

The sporting importance was undermined by the war events on the one hand, and the advantage of contacts between individual clubs and NSDAP politicians on the other. Below the division league there were several relays at Gau level. As a historical peculiarity, it should be noted that years after the end of the war, the victorious clubs began to show the NSRL titles as Austrian championships , until finally the ÖFB followed this example, without ever declaring them as such in a meeting.
