German championship 1942/43

The 37th German championship season 1943 / 44 could only be carried out even with great difficulty. Ever increasing travel problems, a lack of players and equipment, bomb attacks and other effects of the war made regular gaming operations almost impossible.

Numerous clubs had to withdraw from play during the season, and many games were decided at the green table or did not come into the evaluation. In some areas of sport, league operations were not fully completed, but canceled after the season winner or gaumeister had been determined.

In order to make the game easier, one played in numerous sports areas in several regional relays, and there was also a division of sports areas again. The new East Hanover sports area was spun off from the South Hanover-Braunschweig and Weser-Ems areas, and the Sudetenland sports area was divided into the Sudetenland and Bohemia - Moravia areas. This increased the number of sports areas to 31.

Despite all the difficulties, the championship season 1943/44 was played to the end, in contrast to the cup competition scheduled for 1944, which had to be canceled before the start of the main round. The Dresdner SC was able to successfully defend its title in this last war championship. In the final he defeated the Luftwaffe sports club Hamburg with a clear 4-0.

The success of the LSV Hamburg was typical of the rise of the - for the most part newly formed - military associations in these years. As a newcomer to the Gau class, the club immediately won the championship in Hamburg after having made it to the nationwide cup final in 1943, and reached the championship final in 1944. He relied exclusively on war guest players . The Heeres-Sport-Verein Groß Born from Pomerania was also one of these clubs . The club, which had emerged from the HSV Hubertus Kolberg club through relocation , not only broke through the dominance of the clubs from Stolp and Stettin in Pomerania in its first year , but also made it to the semi-finals of the championship finals, as far as no other Pomeranian Team.
