The Kieselhumes stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the St. Johann district of the Saarland capital of Saarbrücken . The facility, inaugurated in 1931, now offers space for 12,000 spectators, according to other sources for 6,000 people.

history

The stadium was opened in August 1931 and in 1935 received the grandstands that have been preserved until today . In 1952 the Kieselhumes was expanded and from then on offered 35,000 spectators. The turret on the grandstand side also dates from this time. In the years 1999 to 2004, the most recent fundamental modernizations were carried out with a natural grass pitch , synthetic track with eight lanes and a shot put system, as well as reconstruction and renovation of the grandstand building. The number of spectator seats in the stadium was drastically reduced in the course of the renovation work. Further spectator seats are currently being removed.

Soccer

The main user is currently the women's soccer team of 1. FC Saarbrücken . In the 1940s and 1950s, the men of 1. FC Saarbrücken played their home games in the final round of the German soccer championship in the Kieselhumes stadium. The Saarland national soccer team also used this stadium.

athletics

The main user in the field of athletics is the athletics department of the SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken club . In addition, district and state championships are held in the Kieselhumes stadium, in 2008 the Bundesliga final match of the German team championships (DMM) .
