German championship 1927/28

As in the previous year, the twenty-second German soccer championship ended very late. The new German champion was only determined at the end of July. This time, however, the reason was not the participation of the national team in a big football tournament, but the extremely cold winter, which mixed up the fixtures in the regions. As a result, most of the regional representatives were only confirmed at the end of May and the final round could only begin on June 9th.

Another delay resulted from the semi-finals. In the duel between Hertha BSC and 1. FC Nürnberg there was no winner after 150 minutes of playing time and the game had to be repeated, which postponed the final by two weeks.

The title fights brought a new, albeit tragic, record. Hertha BSC was the first German team to reach the final for the fourth time in a row; however, the team left the field as a loser for the fourth time. But the result was almost irrelevant in this final. The DFB had awarded the final duel to Nuremberg . The supporters of the 1. FCN believed that the semi-final defeat against Hertha (it was the first real defeat for Nuremberg at a championship finals and the first time that they did not reach the final) was due to wrong decisions by the referee and gave the Berliners a hostile and hateful reception. The game was close to being canceled several times. So it was not surprising that the Herthaners drew the short straw against the Fürth for the second time. It was the third title win for SpVgg and the eighth championship for the Nuremberg / Fürth region.

When ATSB celebrated laurel Hamburg his first title victory in the German Turnerschaft the championship went to TV in 1846 in Mannheim . The German youth force played again no champions this year.
