German championship 1924/25

The nineteenth German football championship was a championship of surprises: defending champion 1. FC Nürnberg could not qualify for the final round - they were only second behind FC Bayern Munich in the Bayernliga - and runner-up FSV Frankfurt clearly failed in the quarter-finals with 2: 8 to Hertha BSC , the Hamburger SV , subscription champions of the north, was only runner-up there, Bayern Munich, today the most successful German soccer team, is sensationally southern champion, only to be eliminated in the first round at Fortuna Leipzig without a sound, another surprise participant was alongside Fortuna Leipzig of BV Altenessen 06 .

The SpVgg Fürth was the second time German champion, it had but good luck. When you were third in the Bayernliga you had already failed in terms of sport, but as a South German Cup winner you were allowed to take part in the South German finals. There they finished second behind Bayern and then showed great form in the German championship. Due to the way in which the Fürth title came about, many called for a fundamental reform of the championship mode.

The West German teams were disappointed: All three teams were eliminated in the first round. Many attributed this to the “new path”, which ended with it. As usual, the coming season should last over a year.

Other German soccer champions that year were Dresdner SV 1910 , who successfully defended their ATSB title, as well as MTV Fürth at the German Gymnastics Association . The German youth force played again no champions this year.
