Alfred Götze (born September 23, 1900 ; † unknown) was a German football player .
Player career
The goalkeeper called by his teammates Freddy began his career at SC des Westens in 1897 from Berlin-Charlottenburg .
In 1923 he first moved to Hertha BSC as a substitute goalkeeper . But already in his first season, the rather small Götze replaced Fritz Binte , who was also signed up before the season, as number 1. Götze's debut could hardly have gone better, so he kept a hand penalty in the game against Union 92 Berlin and his goal was clean. In the course of the season he was supposed to save two more penalties and could be satisfied with the season, even if his club had to be content with second place behind BFC Alemannia 90 . In the 1924/25 season, the blue-whites made it better and became sovereign Berlin-Brandenburg champions , which ultimately qualified them for the final round of the German championship , in which they advanced to the semi-finals, but there the FSV Frankfurt after extra time 0: 1 documents.
Also in 1926 and 1927 Götze reached the championship finals with his club and both made it to the finals, in which they defeated SpVgg Fürth (1: 4) and the following year 1. FC Nürnberg (0: 2) had to give. During this time, Götze, together with defenders Emil Domscheidt and Max Fischer, formed the backbone of the Berlin team .
Even though he played a few more times in the league and was able to achieve the Berlin championship title four more times, he did not play another DM final game, as Paul Gehlhaar , who was five years younger than him, overtook him as regular goalkeeper. So Götze could not see the two finals he won in 1930 and 1931 on the pitch. Overall, Götze played ten games in the finals for the German championship. Following the second German championship, Götze ended his playing career in 1931.
