The Stettiner Sport Club was a German sports club. He was based in the capital of the Pomeranian province of Szczecin and used the Richard Lindemann sports field on the northwestern outskirts of Szczecin. His club colors were pink and white.

history

The club was founded in 1908 as the football division of the Athletics Sports Club Marathon Stettin . In 1911 he called himself the Stettiner Sport Club. He became known in particular through the sports of soccer and athletics. The soccer team of the Stettiner SC was twice Pomeranian soccer champion, and the athlete Gerhard Volkmann became German champion in the 3000 m obstacle course in 1920, Günther König won the German championship in 1940 in the long jump.

The soccer players took part in the championships of the Baltic Lawn and Winter Sports Association , later the Baltic Sports Association. In 1921 they first won the championship, but the team was later stripped of the title in favor of VfB 1900 Königsberg . Because of the late withdrawal, the Stettiner SC could still take part in the final round of the German championship in 1921 . In the quarter-finals, the Stettiner eliminated after a 1: 2 defeat against the BFC Vorwärts 90. In 1926, the Stettiner SC qualified again as the northeast German runner-up for the German finals . With 2: 8 against Holstein Kiel this time the end came in the first game.

After the league reorganization of the National Socialists, the Stettiner SC was classified in the Gauliga Pomerania for the 1933/34 season and immediately won the runner-up after two finals against Viktoria Stolp (1: 1 and 0: 2). In 1935, the Stettiner succeeded in revenge, this time they won the Gaume Championship with 1-0 and 0-0 and thus reached the final of the German championship for the third time . After five defeats in six group games, Stettin was eliminated from the finals this time as bottom of the group. After 1936 after second place in the Gauliga, again behind Viktoria Stolp, the DM final was missed and in 1937 not even the Gauliga final was reached, the Stettiner SC won its second Pomeranian Gauliga championship in 1938. This time, the Stettiner won two matches in the group matches of the DM finals , but retired prematurely as third in the group. In the following years, the Stettiner SC could not maintain its leading role in the Gauliga. The Stettiner SC took part in the Tschammerpokal in 1935, 1938 and 1940, but were eliminated in the first round. After the expulsion of the German population from Szczecin, the association went under in 1945.

Sports facility

The Stettiner SC played its games on the Richard Lindemann sports field in the Eckerberger Wald. The capacity at that time was 32,000 spectators. The sports facility is now called Stadion Arkonii Szczecin and is used by the Arkonia Szczecin sports club . The main stand has space for around 9,000 spectators. A floodlight system has been installed since 2007.

On September 15, 1935, an international match between Germany and Estonia took place on the Richard-Lindemann-Sportplatz, which Germany won 5-0.
