Arkonia Szczecin is a Polish football club from Szczecin (Polish: Szczecin ) in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship .

history

Arkonia Szczecin was founded in 1946 . The association actually came into being a year earlier in Koszalin , when the seat of the Polish provincial administration was still there. When the authorities moved to Szczecin, the football club also moved and was officially founded under the name Milicyjny Klub Sportowy Szczecin . After several mergers, the association had different names such as Gwardia , Budowlani and Chrobry , until the association took its current name Arkonia in 1958 . The club made it into the quarter-finals of the Polish Football Cup three times . The club spent four seasons in the Ekstraklasa , the highest Polish division, the best result was a 6th place in the 1962/63 season. At that time Arkonia had 15 departments and belonged to one of the leading Polish sports clubs. From 1971, due to financial problems and a decline in membership, the club gave several departments to other Szczecin clubs or had to dissolve them, so that the club now only has two departments, football and water polo . Today, the former first division team only plays in lower-class regional leagues.
