Willy Ascherl

Willy Ascherl (born January 7, 1902 in Fürth ; † August 8, 1929 in Meißen ) was a German football player . The striker won with his club SpVgg Fürth in the year 1926 the German championship and southern Germany in the years 1923, 1924 and 1926, three times the Federal Cup .

Career

Ascherl came from the youth of the game association. He then put in a stopover at the local competition TV 1860 Fürth and played in the rounds of 1920/21 and 1921/22 in the Northern Bavarian regional league against 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Fürth. In December 1922 he returned to the Ronhof. The small, quick and extremely tricky attacker was mostly on the left side of the storm, where he was used as a connector and as a left wing. In 1923 he celebrated the southern German championship and the entry into the final round of the German championship. In his first final game on May 13, 1923, he was able to distinguish himself as a two-time goalscorer in a 4-0 win against the Breslauer Sportfreunde. As early as February 25, 1923, he had won the final of the Federal Cup with 2-1 goals against the selection team of the West German Game Association with the selection team of the South German Football Association in Frankfurt . The Sturmreihe des Südens played in the line-up with Georg Wunderlich (Stuttgarter Kickers) and a quintet from the Spielvereinigung: Andreas Franz , Leonhard Seiderer , Ascherl, Karl Auer . As a half-left he scored the gate to the 2-0 lead. In the following round, 1923/24, it was enough for the runner-up in southern Germany, on February 17, 1924 with a 4-2 victory against the team of the North German Football Association to defend the title in the national cup competition April debuted in Amsterdam in the international match against the national team of the Netherlands in the senior national team. The combination of Nuremberg and Fürth won the game with 1-0 goals. Ascherl played on the left winger and hit the cross in the 26th minute, which his club-mate Karl Auer was able to transform into the decisive goal.

In the 1925/26 season he was again runner-up with Fürth in southern Germany . The Fürth were able to take part in the final round of the German championship and, after successes against FC Viktoria Forst , the Breslauer SC 08 and in the semifinals with 3-1 against Holstein Kiel in the final. On June 13, they defeated Hertha BSC 4-1 and won the championship for the second time in the club's history. Ascherl ended the scoring with his goal in the 68th minute. In the national cup he was successful in the selection team of the South German Football Association as a goal scorer in the games on September 6 and October 3, 1925 (semi-finals) against the selection team of the West German Game Association (7: 2) and the Association of Brandenburg Ball Game Clubs (7 : 0) in action. The final took place just one day (October 4th) after the clear semi-final victory against Brandenburg in Leipzig against the team of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs and he was unable to participate due to injury. In the 2-1 final win against Central Germany, his club mate Georg Kießling stormed for him in the Nuremberg-Fürth combination .

After the third runner-up in southern Germany in 1926/27 , the games against Kickers 1900 Berlin (9: 0) followed in the final round of the German championship and on May 29, 1927 in Leipzig in front of 25,000 spectators in the VfB stadium the "repetition" of the Last year's final against Hertha BSC. With two goals from Willi Kirsei , Johannes Sobeck's team prevailed with 2-1 goals and threw the defending champion out of the competition. The dreaded series of attacks by the Spielvereinigung with Karl Auer , Andreas Franz , Leonhard Seiderer , him and Georg Kießling failed to score any more in the second half.

Ascherl finished the 1927/28 season with SpVgg Fürth in third place. From 1923 to 1927 he played eight finals with the Ronhof team and scored seven goals. After eight point games in which he scored four goals, the trained businessman moved to MSV 08 Meißen in November 1928 .

He was initially not allowed to play in Meißen because the DFB suspected that Ascherl had moved from Fürth to Meißen for financial reasons, which was not allowed at the time. Ascherl therefore initially acted as a coach at MSV 08 Meißen, before he was later also active for Meißen on the ball in the East Saxony district league. But unfortunately only for a short time, Willy Ascherl died in 1929 at the age of 27 as a result of a ruptured bowel.
