Georg Wunderlich (born October 31, 1893 in Fürth ; † May 27, 1963 ) was a German national football player and club coach.

Player career

Wunderlich began his career at SpVgg Fürth . With the club he became German champion in 1914 with a 3-2 final win against VfB Leipzig . During the First World War , however, he switched to local rival TV Fürth in 1860 . At the end of 1920 he had to move to Frankfurt for professional reasons and therefore switched to Helvetia Bockenheim . There he was banned for three months because of the acceptance of 800 kroner from the Lower Austrian Association. At the time, this was a violation of the amateur statute. In 1922 he moved on to the Stuttgarter Kickers . He played here for six years before moving to VfR Heilbronn in 1928 , where he ended his active career in 1930.

Selection / national teams

In the senior national team's first post-war international match on June 27, 1920, he played in the 3-1 defeat of the Swiss national team in Zurich . He was also used in the 2: 3 defeat against the Austrian national team in Vienna on September 26 of the same year. After a year break he played again against Austria on May 5, 1921, this time a 3-3 draw was achieved. In 1923 he still played against the national team of Italy (1: 3 defeat) and the national team of the Netherlands (0-0 draw).

For the national team of South German Football Association took Wunderlich at the Federal Cup in part, he by a 2 1923: 1 victory in Frankfurt against the national team of the Game Association West Germans won. As early as 1919 he had played in the final against the national team of the North German Football Association (4-5). Overall, the Fürth and Stuttgart player played at least 17 times for the southern German national team, including twice during his time in Bockenheim.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Wunderlich became a coach. From 1937 he worked for SV Göppingen . From 1942 to 1943 he trained Union Böckingen , after the Second World War he returned to VfR Heilbronn .
