The club had its greatest success in football when it became champion of the Gauliga Württemberg in the 1933/34 season and thus qualified for the final round of the German football championship. Here they were eliminated in the preliminary round of Group III after games against SV Waldhof Mannheim (2: 4, 0: 6), Mülheimer SV 06 (2: 0, 2: 6) and Kickers Offenbach (6: 3, 1: 4) off.

From 1933 until the voluntary withdrawal on November 23, 1944, the club was always a member of the first-class Gauliga Württemberg except for two seasons . After the end of the Second World War , the football team failed in the promotion round to the Oberliga Süd in 1950 and had to play in the 2nd League South , from which they were relegated in 1951. As champions of the amateur league Württemberg and runner-up in the following qualifying round, however, they returned in 1952 to the 2nd South League. 1954 was the final farewell to the second class. Until 1978 you played a good role in the amateur league North Württemberg despite relegations in the meantime. In 1966 and 1970 the league was even represented at the German amateur championship .

When in 1978 the Baden-Württemberg amateur leagues were merged into the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg , qualification was missed and the national soccer leagues disappeared.

In 2012 the football department was split off and added to FC Union Heilbronn . Most recently, the first team of the FV Union played in the district league Unterland and finished second there at the end of the 2011/12 season.
