The sixth German football championship was held from May 3 to June 7, 1908. Viktoria 89 Berlin secured the championship in the final in Tempelhof near Berlin with a 3-1 win against the Stuttgarter Kickers .
As the penultimate of the German regional associations , the Baltic Lawn Sports Association was founded in 1907 and in this season VfB Königsberg was determined as champions . The entire area of the Reich was now divided into eight regions; a division that was to last until 1911.
Attendees
Eight teams were eligible to participate, and for the first time a Northeast German representative also took part in the final round. As in the previous year, the Berlin-Brandenburg region was again represented by only one team. In a playoff between the champions of the two rival regional associations, Viktoria 89 Berlin ( Association of Berliner Ballspielvereine ) won 4: 3 against Berlin FC Norden-Nordwest ( Märkischer Fußball-Bund ). The newly founded third Berlin football association, the “ Berliner Ballspiel-Bund ”, was not given the opportunity to send a representative to the final round.

They also received a public reprimand for this behavior with the threat of being disqualified immediately if repeated; the FFC also had to pay a fine of 100 marks . The Cickers had protested because of incorrect referee decisions. From a sporting point of view, Freiburg had won the game 1-0 with a goal scored by Stöhrmann in the 64th minute.
Breslau led 1-0 at halftime with a penalty that was converted by Fritz Langner in the 38th minute . Alexander Palm equalized in the 62nd minute , after which Leipzig turned the game around with more goals from Kurt Graefner in the 72nd minute and Otto Reislant five minutes later.
The Königsbergers, who were taking part in the national finals for the first time, had no chance. Already at halftime the Berliners were leading 5-0, the first four goals were scored twice by Willi Worpitzky, Helmut Röpnack and Otto Dumke. The other goalscorers are not known.
Duisburg won the game with a goal from Willi van der Weppen in the second half. The Braunschweiger's greatest chance was thwarted by Gottfried Hinze (DFB President since 1905) in the Duisburg goal when he saved a penalty from W. Mues.

Match report
While the Berlin Viktoria was able to compete with the best line-up, the Stuttgarters lacked the players Otto Löble (no exemption from the military) and Karl Reich (injured). The Swabians could not make up for this weakness, especially since their goalkeeper Hermann Bürkle allowed himself some mistakes. In addition, the Berlin runner series with Willi Knesebeck and Paul Hunder proved to be more experienced. Although Willi Worpitzky made it 1-0 in the 6th minute, the game was only decided in the final phase. After the second Berlin goal again by Willi Worpitzky after 84 minutes, the Stuttgart two minutes later were able to reduce it to 2: 1. The final decision was made by Helmut Röpnack in the 89th minute. The Berlin Viktoria won the German championship for the first time.
