Gottfried Hinze

Gottfried Hinze (born November 2, 1873 in Aachen , † August 23, 1953 in Duisburg ) was a German businessman , athlete and football official . He was 1st Chairman of the German Football Association from 1905 to 1925.

Hinze first joined Duisburg TV as a gymnast and batter player. In 1892 a football department was established. A notable event was a trip to England in 1896 with four games against amateur clubs. In 1900, the football department became independent as Duisburger SpV . Hinze played as a goalkeeper for Duisburg SpV until 1908 . He also acted as an arbitrator . On May 30, 1909, he was the referee for the final of the German championship between Phoenix Karlsruhe and BFC Viktoria 1889 . Two days before the start of the war, in the summer of 1914, he founded the Duisburg-Süd referee association .

From 1904 to 1930 and from 1932 to 1934 Hinze was also the first chairman of his Duisburg SpV. On May 21, 1905 he was elected 1st chairman of the German Football Association . In 1925 Hinze resigned and was made honorary chairman. Hinze was a businessman. He took over his father's trading agency after his father's death.
