The Magdeburg FC Viktoria 1896 was a soccer club from Magdeburg .

history

The club was founded by students from Magdeburg's Guericke-Oberrealschule on June 15, 1896 as the Magdeburg Football and Cricket Club Viktoria and was therefore popularly known as "Schüler-Viktoria".

From 1912 the club was called SV Viktoria 1896 Magdeburg. In 1938 it merged with MTV 1860 Neustadt and was renamed VfL Viktoria-Neustadt 1860 Magdeburg. After the end of the war, the club, like all East German sports clubs, was banned and dissolved in 1945 at the instigation of the Soviet occupying powers on the basis of Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers.

On January 28, 1900, Viktoria 96 was one of the founding members of the German Football Association . The MFCV took part in the championship games at the beginning of the 1900/01 soccer season, initially organized by the Magdeburg Ball Game Clubs and, after joining the regional association, by the Central German Ball Game Clubs . From 1900/01 up to and including the 1908/09 season, Viktoria won all first class championships in Magdeburg and the Middle Elbe , a total of nine titles in a row. In the seasons 1902/03, 1903/04, 1904/05, Viktoria also took part in the finals for the German championship. From 1934 to 1937 SV Victoria played in the Gauliga Mitte, at that time one of the 16 highest soccer leagues in Germany. From 1935, however, the 96ers were clearly overshadowed by their much more successful city rivals Cricket-Viktoria 1897 . In 1936, for economic reasons, the merger with MTV 1860 Neustadt to VfL Viktoria-Neustadt 1860 took place .

With Paul Matthes Victoria 96 produced a national player. He played on April 30, 1908 in Berlin in the second international match of the DFB as a left winger against England (1: 5).

In 2008 a club was re-established under the traditional name Magdeburger FC Viktoria 1896 and took part in the games of the 2nd city class Magdeburg in the 2008/09 season. In 2009, however, it was dissolved again.

Sports facilities

Like the other Magdeburg football clubs, Viktoria 96 initially used an area at Cracauer Anger , until the military headquarters withdrew this area from further sporting use in 1904. Viktoria 96 then switched to the Am Schleppsäbel sports field , the first real sports facility in Magdeburg, after briefly using the cycling track on Berliner Chaussee . On April 14, 1912, the new Viktoria sports field was finally completed on Gübser Damm , where Viktoria 96 played until the Second World War and where the Ernst Grube Stadium and the MDCC Arena were later built.
