Central German football championship 1915/16

The Central German Football Championship 1916/17 of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs was the 16th season of the Central German Football Championship . Despite the First World War , regular games took place in most of the districts during this season. With a 2-0 win over the SV Dresdner Fußballring , Hallesche FC became Central German soccer champions for the first time in 1896 . The German soccer championship did not take place again due to the war.

mode

The clubs were divided into 23 districts (Gaue) in the 1916/17 season, the winners of which played the central German football championship. In some districts, however, gaming operations were suspended due to the war. The winners of the districts of North Thuringia, East Thuringia, Saale-Elster and Wartburg played the Thuringian championship first. Of these four clubs, only the Thuringian soccer champions were allowed to take part in the Central German soccer finals. No representative from the districts of Central Saxony and West Thuringia took part in the Central German football finals despite the game being played.

Halle started the game nervously, but Büttner scored the first goal in the 12th minute after a pass from Förderer. As a result, Dresden attacked more strongly, but the Halle goalkeeper Hensel kept his box clean. Dresden continued to put pressure on in the second half, but Halles and Hensel's defense could thwart their chances. An open game developed and Halle scored two minutes before the end to make it 2-0. The Halle FC 1896 was therefore the first time Central German football champions.
