history

VfB Sangerhausen was founded in 1906 as a football club. After the end of the Second World War , the association was dissolved on the basis of a control council directive of the occupying powers. First, from 1948, SG Wacker 48 continued the sports business in Sangerhausen, after which several company sports associations (BSG) were founded in the city from 1949 . BSG Stahl, which was founded in 1951, developed into the most powerful BSG. It was joined by the BSG unit in 1956. Carrier operation was the copper mine Thomas Müntzer Schacht. The BSG Stahl offered numerous sports, the greatest successes had the bowling section, which was GDR champion in team asphalt bowling five times between 1980 and 1989 and in 1982 was the GDR individual champion with Horst Wöstehoff. In the 1970s, the company sports community was taken over by the Mansfeld Combine and then started as the BSG Mansfeld Combine Sangerhausen. When the combine was dissolved as a result of the economic changes due to the political change in 1989 , the BSG was converted into the registered association SSV Blau-Weiß 1990. This initially took over all sports sections of the BSG, but in 1993 the football department split off and on July 21, 1993 re-founded VfB 1906 Sangerhausen.

Development of the sport of football

The Sangerhausen soccer players played a subordinate role until the 1950s. In 1959, the BSG Stahl rose from the then fifth division district class to the top division of the GDR district of Halle , the district league . This became third class from 1963 by setting the 2nd GDR League . Stahl was able to establish himself in the front field of the district league in 1964 and 1966, but in 1966/67 the BSG fell back to 18th and third from last place and had to relegate to the district class. The immediate resurgence was followed by ups and downs between the third and fourth leagues, until the BSG Mansfeld Kombinat (MK) became district champion in Halle in 1980 and rose to the second-rate GDR league . It stayed with the one DDR league season 1980/81 , then the BSG MK Sangerhausen played again in the district league until the end of the GDR soccer game operation. In 1984 she won the district championship again, but missed the return to the GDR league with a fifth place in the promotion round. In the last season of the GDR district league 1989/90, the BSG reached 5th place.

Within two seasons, the BSG MK was involved in the GDR-wide soccer cup competition ( FDGB-Pokal ). For the 1981/82 season she was eligible to start due to her previous participation in the GDR league, but failed in the second round at the GDR league club BSG Chemie IW Ilmenau with 2: 3. In 1984 Sangerhausen won the district cup and qualified again for the FDGB cup competition 1984/85. This time it was only enough for two rounds, in the home game against the GDR Oberliga representative FC Karl-Marx-Stadt there was a 2-0 defeat.

The SSV Blau-Weiß started in 1990/91 in the then fourth-class Association League Saxony-Anhalt . After only two seasons, the club was relegated to the national league. In 2002 VfB rose again to the association league and in 2007 became Saxony-Anhalt champions. Associated with this was promotion to the then fourth-class Oberliga Nordost , which VfB was only able to hold for the 2007/08 season.
