The Spielvereinigung Dresden-Löbtau 1893 is a German sports club from Dresden . In the 600-member club, other sports such as handball and table tennis are played alongside soccer. The football department is in the tradition of the Dresden FC 1893 , next to the Dresden English Football Club the oldest football club in the city. The DFC 1893 is a founding club of the DFB and was also involved in the founding of the Dresden Ball Game Association .
Football department
The football department was created in 1893 after a separation from the 1877 Löbtau gymnastics club, which was founded in 1877, under the name Neuer Dresdner FC , but changed its name to Dresdner SG 1893 in 1899 . The DSG played consistently in the championship of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs , in which it was always inferior to larger Central German clubs such as SpVgg 1899 Leipzig or VfB Leipzig .
The greatest success was reaching the Central German semi-finals in 1917/18 . After victories over Budissa Bautzen and Teutonia Chemnitz, Dresden lost to VfB Leipzig with 0: 3. In 1927, the DSG reported back in the Central German Cup, but lost again to VfB Leipzig in the semi-finals. In the period that followed, the DSG disappeared from higher-class football in 1893, and any participation in the Gauliga Sachsen could not be achieved.
In 1945 the association was dissolved and re-established as SG Löbtau . In 1949, the sports community with the introduction of the system has been supporting companies as BSG consumer Dresden converted. After the creation of the central " Sportvereinigung Empor ", another name was changed in 1952 to BSG Empor Dresden-Löbtau . On a sporting level, Empor Dresden-Löbtau did not appear higher in GDR football. In 1954, the company sports association (BSG) rose to the Dresden district league , in which mostly secured midfield places were held until 1963.
In 1989, the return to the district league level succeeded again, the qualification for the Landesliga Sachsen missed the meanwhile re-established game association Dresden-Löbtau 1893 clearly. The club currently plays in the 8th league, the Dresden City Superior League.
