The soccer club Viktoria Stendal 1909 (founded November 18, 1909) was a German soccer club in Stendal (Altmark)
The club was founded on November 14th, 1909 in Heinrichslust by 19 young people from the former emigrant club “Preußen Stendal” who were enthusiastic about sports. The founding team consisted of Messrs. Lüchow, Schellhammer, Bäker, Stahlberg, Hallquist, Krüger, Meyer, Schmidt, Theuerkauf and Jaskulsky. For the 20th anniversary of FC Viktoria, the new sports field in Hölzchen was inaugurated in 1929 with the football cry "Hipp hipp hurray!"
The club celebrated its greatest successes in the 1920s and 1930s, when it was Gaumeister of the Altmark several times . Winning the Gaume Championship was associated with entitlement to participate in the Central German Championship , which was the last qualifying round before the German Championship.
In the 1923/1924 season, Stendal won 3-0 as Gaumeister Altmark against FC Salzwedel 09 , Gaumeister Jeetze , in the first round of the Central German Championship. In the round of 16, the club had to admit defeat to FV Fortuna Magdeburg with 1: 2 in extra time, which in turn was defeated in the semifinals by the eventual winners, SpVgg Leipzig-Lindenau , with 2: 5. The SpVgg Leipzig-Lindenau reached the semi-finals of the German championship this year and just had to admit defeat to Hamburger SV . At least in that year, the gradual onset of playful dilution in the VMBV , due to the increase in football gau, was not yet noticeable, which is also proven by the Stendal result.
In the games for the Central German Championship in 1929, FC Viktoria came against Gaumeister Jeetze, this time called VfB Klötze, after a 9-0 win again in the second round. The Magdeburg opponent here was the FuCC Cricket-Viktoria 1897 Magdeburg , to which Viktoria only lost 2: 3 in extra time.
Stendal achieved a respectable success in both years after otherwise several clear failures in the Central German Championship. In the regional Gaume Championships, clubs like Stendaler BC as local rivals, Germania Tangerhütte, Saxonia Tangermünde and Singer Wittenberge were among Viktoria's frequent opponents. From 1932 Stendal no longer played a national role in the Gaume Championships.
Viktoria Stendal was the strongest city club before the Second World War and was dissolved in 1945.
