The Stadion am Hölzchen (now also called Wilhelm-Helfers-Kampfbahn ) is a traditional football stadium in Stendal . It is the venue for the home games of 1. FC Lok Stendal . After the old sports facility had been dismantled, a new stadium was built on the same site by 2005, also called Stadion am Hölzchen.

history

Football has been played in the Stadion am Hölzchen since 1909, initially by Viktoria Stendal . After the Second World War , the stadium was the home of Eintracht Stendal and, since 1950, the BSG Lokomotive Stendal , which until 1968 belonged to the GDR league several times . In 1951 the stadium was renamed Wilhelm-Helfers-Kampfbahn, the capacity of which was increased to 15,000 spectators by 1968. The record visit dates from May 31, 1970, when a game in the second-rate GDR league between Lokomotive Stendal and 1. FC Union Berlin had 14,000 spectators. Lokomotive Stendal was renamed FSV Altmark Stendal in 1990 and in 2000 the stadium was renamed again to Stadion am Hölzchen. In 2002, FSV Altmark Stendal merged with 1. FC Stendal to form 1. FC Lok Stendal, which was the last to use the stadium. In the early 2000s, the old stadium on the Hölzchen was demolished and replaced by a new building with the same name by 2004. The new building has a capacity of around 1,000 seats and 5,000 standing places.
