The Dresdener Fußballring 1902 was a football club from Dresden that existed between 1902 and 1933. It was also known under the name Ring-Greiling 02 Dresden . The club won the Gau Ostsachsen six times, making it one of the most successful clubs in the Gau Ostsachsen. In contrast to Dresdner SC and SV Guts Muts Dresden , the club could not win the Central German football championship.

history

After the club was founded in 1902 under the name Dresdener Fußballring in 1902 , the club won the Gau Ostsachsen for the first time in the 1912/13 season and qualified for the central German soccer championships . In the second round of the strong Gaue, the team met VfB Leipzig . The Dresdeners lost the game 3-1 after extra time against the later Central German and German champions. In the 1913/14 season they defended the championship in Gau Ostsachsen and after they received a bye in the first round , they defeated Budissa Bautzen 4-0 in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals they were defeated by Chemnitzer BC 3-2.

Both in the 1916/17 season and in the 1918/19 season they won their Gau and reached the final of the Central German soccer championship . In 1916/17 they prevailed 7-0 against Budissa Bautzen , 7-2 against Chemnitzer BC and 2-0 against SC Erfurt . In the final, the Dresden team met Hallescher FC 1896 and lost 2-0. In 1918/19 they won 5: 2 against SpVgg Leipzig-Lindenau , 3: 2 against VfB Chemnitz and 2: 1 against VfB Leipzig . In the final, Dresden met again against Hallescher FC 1896 and this time lost 2-1.

The team saw the fifth and sixth championships in Gau Ostsachsen between 1920 and 1922. In the 1920/21 season, the Central German Football Championship was held as a tournament in which the Dresden Football Ring took third place behind Hallescher FC 1896 and SpVgg Leipzig- Lindenau proved. The Central German football championship in the 1921/22 season was again held as a tournament and the Dresden team again took third place, this time behind the SpVgg Leipzig-Lindenau and the Chemnitzer BC .

In the following period, the team could no longer build on the successes. In 1930 the football ring changed its name to  Ring-Greiling 02 Dresden . In 1933 the club merged with SV Brandenburg 01 Dresden to form Sportfreunde 01 Dresden .
