After the club was founded in 1902 under the name Dresdener Fußballring in 1902 , the club won the Gau Ostsachsen for the first time in the 1912/13 season and qualified for the central German soccer championships . In the second round of the strong Gaue, the team met VfB Leipzig . The Dresdeners lost the game 3-1 after extra time against the later Central German and German champions. In the 1913/14 season they defended the championship in Gau Ostsachsen and after they received a bye in the first round , they defeated Budissa Bautzen 4-0 in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals they were defeated by Chemnitzer BC 3-2.
Both in the 1916/17 season and in the 1918/19 season they won their Gau and reached the final of the Central German soccer championship . In the following period, the team could no longer build on the successes. In 1930 the football ring changed its name to Ring-Greiling 02 Dresden . In 1933 the club merged with SV Brandenburg 01 Dresden to form Sportfreunde 01 Dresden .
