List of Central German football champions 1902–1933

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
VfB Leipzig
11 times Central German champion
In 1902 Wacker Leipzig became the first Central German master.

The list of Central German football champions includes all champions of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV) from 1902 to 1933. On December 26, 1900, the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs was founded. The first championship round took place in 1901/02 . In August 1933 the association was dissolved.

mode

The winners of the regional Gauligen were qualified for the Central German football final, which was mostly played in the knockout system . If there were two Gauligen when the VMBV was founded, the number of first-class leagues grew to 23 by 1914. The Central German Championship in 1915 could not be played because of the First World War . The other championships during the First World War were played, although no German football championship was played. After the Thuringian districts already merged during the war, the mode of staging was changed for the 1919/20 season. In place of the numerous Gauligen seven district leagues appeared as the top division, which included several Gaue. The final round was then held with the seven district champions in a round-robin tournament. This mode was retained until 1922/23, after which the numerous Gauligen were again the highest division, which reached their highest level with 28 in the 1927/28 season.

Second Central German participant in the German football championship 1925–1933

From 1925 each association was allowed to send two teams to the German championships. Unlike other associations, the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs did not nominate the Central German runner-up, but played an extra tournament in 1925 and 1926, for which the runners-up from the individual districts were qualified. The winner of this tournament then played against the loser of the final of the Central German Championship for second place on the grid. From 1927, the Central German cup winner qualified for the German championship.

Eternal table by clubs

In the 32 years that the VMBV has existed, a total of 128 different teams have qualified for the Central German football final. All games in the final tournaments are taken into account in this eternal table. Games that were canceled and games that were abandoned and repeated later are not taken into account. The table is based on the two-point rule customary at the time .
