The Gauliga Mulde was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It was founded in 1923 and existed until the VMBV was dissolved in 1933. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .

overview

After the dissolution of the first-class district leagues and the return to the Gauligen as the top division for the 1923/24 season , the Gauliga Mulde was founded. The league start with ten teams. In the 1930/31 season , the Gauliga Elbe-Elster was connected to the Gau Mulde, from then on the game operation took place in two seasons ( Altmulde and Elbe-Elster ), the two season winners then played in a final of the Gaume Championship and participation in the Central German football final.

In the course of the Gleichschaltung , the VMBV and consequently the Gauliga Mulde were dissolved a few months after the National Socialists came to power in 1933. The Gaumeister of the season 1932/33 received a starting place in the future first-class Gauliga middle , the other teams were classified in the lower divisions.

The Gauliga Mulde was dominated by VfB Preußen Greppin 1911 and VfL 1911 Bitterfeld , no other club managed to win this Gauliga.

classification

The excessive number of first-class Gauligen within the VMBV had caused a dilution of the game level, there were sometimes double-digit results in the Central German football finals. The clubs from the Gauliga Mulde were among the weaker clubs in the association. In the mid-1920s, the Gaumeister Muldes were usually assigned clubs from the strongest Gauligen in the first round of the Central German football championship. Prussia Greppin only narrowly failed in 1924/25 (2: 3) and 1928/29 (4: 6 after extra time) at the multiple champions FC Wacker Halle . The VfL Bitterfeld was several times past the first round, 1926/27 came Bitterfeld a 7: 3 win over SV forward Falkenberg and a 3: 2 victory against Riesaer SV in the third round before, lost there but against the Dresdner SC with 0: 2.

In the first-class Gauliga Mitte , introduced from 1933, VfL Bitterfeld was able to hold out for two seasons. Another club from the former Gauliga Mulde did not make the leap to the Gauliga Mitte until 1944.
