The Gauliga Kyffhäuser (also 1st class Kyffhäuser ) was one of the top football leagues of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs (VMBV). It emerged in 1911 as a spin-off from the Gauliga Nordthüringen and existed until the VMBV was dissolved in 1933. The winner qualified for the finals of the Central German soccer championship .

overview

On July 29, 1911, the Kyffhäuser Gau was founded in Nordhausen and included the towns of Nordhausen, Sangerhausen , Eisleben and Helfta . All clubs previously played in the district of Northern Thuringia. At the end of October 1911, eight clubs from the lower Eichsfeld joined the Gau. The first class started with four participating teams. For the 1913/14 season , part of the Gauliga with the Gauliga Grafschaft Mansfeld founded an independent Gauliga. Due to the outbreak of the First World War, there were no league games in 1914/15 and 1915/16. On October 1st, 1917 the Gaue Grafschaft Mansfeld and Kyffhäuser merged, the Gau kept the name Kyffhäusers. In 1917/18 , the Gaumeister Kyffhäusers did not qualify directly for the central German football final, but played the Thuringian football championship with the winners of the districts of Northern Thuringia, Eastern Thuringia, Saale-Elster and Wartburg, the winners of which were then allowed to take part in the central German football final.

In the course of the game class reform of the VMBV in 1919, the Gauliga Kyffhäuser was only second class. With the district league Thuringia , a new top division was created, which in addition to the Gau Kyffhäuser also included the Gaue Northern Thuringia, Eastern Thuringia, Southern Thuringia, Wartburg and Western Thuringia. This district league was dominated by the Erfurt clubs, no club from the Gau Kyffhäuser could qualify for this first-class league. In the 1923/24 season , the district leagues were abolished, from then on the Gauliga Kyffhäuser was again first class. In 1927 the clubs split off from Eichsfeld and founded the Gauliga Eichsfeld . The number of participants varied between eight and ten clubs in the 1920s and 1930s.

In the course of the Gleichschaltung , the VMBV and consequently the Gauliga Kyffhäuser were dissolved a few months after the National Socialists came to power in 1933. No club from this Gau qualified for the newly established first-class Gauliga Mitte , instead the clubs were classified in the lower divisions.

The Gauliga Kyffhäuser was predominantly dominated by the Nordhausen clubs. The two championships played before the First World War were secured by FC Preußen Nordhausen and VfB Sangerhausen . 1913/14 were the SV Wacker Mars Nordhausen and the SpVgg Preußen Nordhausen tied on points, so that a playoff for the Gaume Championship was necessary. The game played on March 22, 1914, Wacker-Mars won 5-1. At this point in time, the participant's registration for the Central German soccer championship had expired, as the first round there began on the same day. In July 1914, however, the playoff was rated for Prussia Nordhausen , as Wacker-Mars had used an ineligible player. Wacker-Mars protested against this , so a replay was scheduled for November 1, 1914. This game could be won by Prussia 3-2, against which Wacker-Mars protested again, but withdrew this protest in the Gau committee meeting on January 30, 1915. On this day, the request from Prussia Nordhausen was granted not to name a master for this season. After returning to the Gauligen league system, Wacker Nordhausen was able to win another five championships. VfB Eisleben , who returned from the Gau Grafschaft Mansleben, won the Gaume Championship three times.

classification

The excessive number of first-class Gauligen within the VMBV had caused a dilution of the game level, there were sometimes double-digit results in the Central German football finals. The clubs from the Gauliga Kyffhäuser were among the weakest clubs in the association. The first round of the Central German soccer championship could only be survived twice. 1929/30 won Wacker Nordhausen the first round game against the VfL 08 Duderstadt with 2: 0, but then failed in the second round short of 0: 1 to SpVgg Erfurt . In 1931/32 , Nordhausen reached the second round again thanks to a 4: 3 win over SV Preußen Langensalza , but lost in this clearly 0:10 against Wacker Leipzig .

Even in the Gauliga Mitte , introduced from 1933 , no club from the former Gau Kyffhäuser was able to penetrate.

Eternal table

All recorded seasons of the first-class Gauliga Kyffhäuser from 1911 to 1933 are taken into account. The seasons 1916/17 and 1918/19 are currently not recorded. Since there were games in some seasons that were counted as a defeat for both teams, there are more counterpoints than points.
