Today's SC 1911 has a number of forerunners. On June 27, 1911, the Heiligenstadt 1911 football club was founded in the district town of then 8,000 inhabitants. Up to the Second World War it underwent a number of restructuring, and names such as Blau-Weiß Heiligenstadt and SC Olympia Heiligenstadt appeared. In 1945, in Heiligenstadt, as in the entire Soviet occupation zone, all sports clubs were banned at the instigation of the occupying power and sports competitions were only permitted on a narrow regional level. A loosely organized sports community was formed to continue the sport in Heiligenstadt. It was taken over by the state administrative institutions of the city around 1949 as part of the reorganization of the sporting system in East Germany on the basis of company sports associations and converted into the BSG unit Heiligenstadt. In the following years the sponsoring company and thus the name of the BSG changed several times : 1956 "Rotation", 1964 "Motor" and most recently in 1985 BSG Solidor Heiligenstadt as the company sports association of the metalworking plant Solidor based in Heiligenstadt . After the economic changes caused by German reunification, Solidorwerk stopped supporting the company sports community in the early 1990s. Then the civil association 1. SC 1911 Heiligenstadt eV was founded, which was entered in the register of associations on May 19, 1992.

After a further two years in the fourth-class district class, another three district league seasons followed until the end of GDR sport in 1991. Heiligenstadt was able to qualify twice for the GDR-wide FDGB soccer cup competition. In 1958, the BSG Rotation won 3-2 at home over the third division activist Tiefenort and reached the second round of the cup, where, however, the third division Motor Oberlind suffered a hefty 6-0 defeat.
