history
The company was founded in 1873 as a needle factory. In 1920 the company had around 650 employees and at that time was one of the largest employers in Eichsfeld . In addition to needles, other metal goods such as letter clips, snap fasteners and key rings were also manufactured. In the GDR , the needle factory was converted into public ownership and renamed VEB Metallwarenwerk Heiligenstadt . In 1973 the company location in Heiligenstadt became the headquarters of VEB Kombinat Solidor . Around 2,400 people were employed in Heiligenstadt and its parts of the business, and 7,000 in the entire combine.
With the reunification of Germany , the company was privatized as Solidor AG and split into several parts.
