The Thuringian State Cup (officially Köstritzer Pokal - Thuringia , partly also TFV-Pokal or Thuringian State Cup ) is the association cup of the Thuringian Football Association . The winner of the TFV Cup automatically qualifies for the DFB Cup .

Qualification and game mode

All third league , regional league , upper league , Thuringian league and regional class clubs in Thuringia are automatically qualified for the Thuringian State Cup. The nine district cup winners also qualify. Since the 2007/08 season, however, only one team per club has been allowed to participate.

It will be played in six rounds in the knockout system . The respective pairings are determined by lot. Each team has only one game per round, which is extended after 90 minutes in the event of a tie and, if necessary, decided in a penalty shoot-out. The third division as well as some ausgeloste teams have one in the first round of the competition bye .

1 Since FC Carl Zeiss Jena was automatically qualified for the DFB-Pokal when they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, the opponent who lost in the final also competed in the DFB-Pokal in the following season.
2In protest against the schedule for the cup final two days after a regional league game, the Rot-Weiß Erfurt players refused to give the award after winning the 2003 cup. Due to this unsportsmanlike nature, the team was suspended for the TFV Cup 2004 and was unable to defend its title.

Previous title holder

With eleven titles, FC Carl Zeiss Jena is the record cup winner. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt has the most finals with 17 finals. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt also achieved most of the title wins in a row with four cup wins in the years 2000 to 2003.
