Saarland Cup

This article explains the association cup. It should not be confused with the International Saarland Cup, which was held between 1949 and 1951.

The Saarland Cup is the association cup of the Saarland Football Association that has been played since 1975 .

Game mode

All first amateur teams of the clubs registered with the SFV are eligible to play.

The Saarland Cup extends over 9 rounds and is played in a knockout system . First of all, within the four districts of the Saarland Football Association - Nordsaar, Ostsaar, Südsaar and Westsaar - participants for the Saarland-wide rounds are determined in three rounds each. From the first Saarland-wide round, i.e. the 4th round of the Saarland Cup, the Saarland regional and third division teams also take part, which automatically qualify for this round.

The determined cup winner can then take part in the first main round of the DFB Cup in the following year .

Cup winners and finals

The record winner of the Saarland Cup is 1. FC Saarbrücken with 11 wins in 14 finals, one of which was reached by the second team of 1. FC Saarbrücken. In addition, 1. FC Saarbrücken was the only team to win the cup four times in a row between 1997 and 2000.

SV Elversberg, on the other hand, played the longest series of consecutive finals with seven finals in the years 2014 to 2020.
