history

founding

The SC Halberg Brebach was founded on April 21, 1907 in the presence of 23 members. Before that, every sport was integrated in the gymnastics club founded in 1878. Five years after the football club was founded, the first youth teams were formed, not least because of the introduction of the different age groups by the DFB .

In 1920 the inauguration of today's venue of SC Halberg took place and by the season 1921/22 the club was already champion in the A-class Saargau. This success was to be repeated in 1936. In 1943 the club played in the district class, which was arranged under the Gauliga in the league system at that time . This year the football club won the championship of the district class, which led to qualification for promotion to Gauliga, but SC Halberg missed promotion to Gauliga due to a defeat in the qualifying round. A year later, the Halberg Brebach won the championship again and also took part in the qualifying games, which could not be continued due to an evacuation due to the war . In the same year, SC Halberg Brebach was defeated in the final of the Saarland Cup against 1. FC Saarbrücken 2-1, so that the club narrowly missed its first participation in the Tschammer Cup .

First successes

In 1945 it was re-established as SKV Brebach-Neufechingen. In 1947 the football club from Brebach-Fechingen was promoted to the former Saarland Honor League as champions of the probation class West , so that the club had to compete against well-known opponents such as Borussia Neunkirchen , Saar 05 Saarbrücken , SV Röchling Völklingen and 1. FC Saarbrücken. In 1948 the club was renamed SC Halberg Brebach. The club reached the semifinals in the Saarland Cup in 1949, this time against Sportfreunde Burbach , which was lost again. This time the game ended 4-2 for Burbach. In the same year the club rose as 12th in the honor league in the district class West, where in 1950 the 2nd place was achieved. In 1952, the club rose as champions of the district class south in the state league , which was later to be renamed the 1st amateur league. For the 50th anniversary of SC Halberg Brebach, the club had to relegate to the 2nd amateur class. In 1964 there was even relegation from this league to the later District League South - the 7th division.

Jump into the Oberliga and DFB-Pokal

In 1986 the SC Halberg Brebach was promoted to the state league. A year later the sponsorship club was founded. The club, however, had to relegate to the seventh-class district league again after a mixed season. In the following season, SC Halberg Brebach managed to immediately return to the state league. The club remained undefeated this season and finished with 55: 5 points. In 1990 he was promoted to the Saar Association League. In 1991 the team finished 13th in the association league. In the 1996 season, the club was second in the association league and reached the semi-finals in the Saarland Cup , which was lost 5-0 against Borussia Neunkirchen . In 1997, the club was promoted to what was then the fourth highest division, the Oberliga Südwest . In the first season 1997/98 a remarkable 3rd place was achieved. In 1999 SC Halberg reached the Saarland Cup final again, but lost to 1. FC Saarbrücken with 1: 5. In 2000 the club had the chance to take revenge: Again the final of the Saarland Cup was called SC Halberg Brebach against 1. FC Saarbrücken. The SC also lost this duel, this time 3: 5. However, despite the defeat, the club took part in a qualifying game for a place in the DFB Cup main round against the then second division side from Nuremberg .

Current situation

In 2003, the club was relegated from the league, but SC Halberg managed a year later to return directly to this division. In 2005 he was relegated to the then fifth and since 2008/09 sixth class Saar Association. In the 2011/12 season, under coach Bernd Eichmann, SC Halberg Brebach managed to make the leap into the now fifth-class Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz / Saar (previously Oberliga Südwest) as the master of the Saarland League. As a table penultimate in the league, however, the relegation to the Saarland League followed promptly.
