geography

Rohrbach is 1 km east of St. Ingbert and 4 km west of Kirkel-Neuhäusel in the eastern part of the natural area of the St. Ingbert Valley . There are numerous forests in the vicinity of Rohrbach . South of the village is the Sankt Ingbert-Kirkeler forest area , part of the Saarbrücken-Kirkeler forest , north of the Saarkohlenwald . The Rohrbach flows through the village .

history

Rohrbach was first mentioned in a document in 1181. However , the place was already a settlement in Celto- Roman and Roman times , which has been proven by numerous archaeological finds.

Around the year 1000, the local area was of the dominion of the counts Bliesgaues whose expansion projects for the formation of the district led the town.

The Hornbach Abbey probably came into the possession of a property (Allodium) near Rohrbach through a donation , which was bequeathed to the Wadgassen Monastery in 1181 .

The Counts of Saar Werden , descendants of the Bliesgaugrafen, also owned parts of Rohrbach. Count Heinrich von Saar Werden had inherited Kirkel , among other things , so that part of Rohrbach fell to the Saar Werden rulership of Kirkel, but remained an independent estate of the Counts of Saar Werden. An interim pledging of the property by Count Ludwig von Saar Werden to the knight Hermann of “St. Engelberto ”was reversed in 1195 by the action of the abbot of Wadgassen.

Another part of Rohrbach belonged to Count Heinrich I von Zweibrücken († 1228), son of Count Simon I from Saarbrücken .

The Saar Werden rule of Kirkel with Rohrbach was inherited by the Lords of Siersberg (hereinafter referred to as Lords of Kirkel), who also exercised the bailiff's rights over the Rohrbach possessions in Vadgassa. In 1386 the noble family of the Lords of Kirkel died out, whose possessions and rights were bequeathed to Rohrbach to the Wadgassen monastery. From around the middle of the 16th century, the Wadgassen monastery only owned the parts of the Rohrbach districts that were near the Glashütte valley and before Sitzweiler. At this point in time, Rohrbach was almost entirely owned by Zweibrücken .

The Reformation was introduced in the 16th century under the rule of Zweibrücken .

In the Thirty Years' War Rohrbach was almost completely destroyed. In 1598 there were 18 households with 51 residents in the place, in 1667 there were only 3 households.

Another family that had property and rights in Rohrbach were the knights Schorr von Hasell, who received the village of Rohrbach from Count Heinrich von Salm in 1278 . It follows that the Count von Salm also had rights to Rohrbach. A memo from 1708 shows that since the end of the Thirty Years War, the Schorren's possessions in Rohrbach belonged to Pfalz-Zweibrücken. Nevertheless, at that time the Schorren still owned small fief shares in Rohrbach, which were bought in 1786 by Freiherr von Esebeck , Minister of State of the Palatinate-Zweibrücken. Duke Karl II August enfeoffed von Esebeck with the former Schorrischen fiefdom.

In 1762 the stable for changing horses for the Imperial Post Office operated by the Thurn und Taxis was relocated from St. Ingbert to Rohrbach.

As a result of the French Revolution , the effects of which also spread to Rohrbach in 1793, the nobility had to flee their estates. In May 1793 were Decree of the National Convention all noble estates on the left bank of the Rhine with Sequester occupied. After the Peace of Campo Formio , the municipality (Commune) Rohrbach belonged from 1798 to the "Canton Bliescastel" in the " Arrondissement de Sarrebruck", which in turn was in the Département de la Sarre .

During the coalition wars , Napoleon and his armies moved through Rohrbach on Kaiserstraße .

In 1816 Rohrbach came to the Rhine District , the left bank of the Rhine territory of the Kingdom of Bavaria .

In 1849 Rohrbach became its own municipality and no longer belonged to St. Ingbert.

The Rohrbach train station was opened on September 1st, 1895 .

After the First World War , the provisions of the Versailles Peace Treaty of 1919 meant that Rohrbach was located in the Saar area from 1920 to 1935 , which was placed under French administration for 15 years with a mandate from the League of Nations . In the vote on January 13, 1935 on the further fate of the Saar area, the Rohrbachers voted with 91.7 percent for the return to Germany (" Home in the Reich ").

After the Second World War , Rohrbach was initially in the French occupation zone , before the place became part of the Saar Protectorate from 1946 to the end of 1956 .

From 1968 to 1969 the community created the Glashütte pond .

With effect from January 1, 1974, the municipality of Rohrbach together with the municipalities of Hassel (Saar) , Rentrisch (formerly Saarbrücken-Land district ), and Oberwürzbach (with Reichenbrunn and Rittersmühle ) became part of the city as part of a regional and administrative reform April 1st 1974 Mittelstadt Sankt Ingbert incorporated.

Culture and sights

Buildings

One of the most important buildings in Rohrbach is the Catholic parish church of St. Johannes, which was built between 1891 and 1895 . The Evangelical Christ Church stands on the Franzosenkopf hill .

Green spaces and recreation

A local recreation area in the immediate vicinity of Rohrbach is the Kahlenberg , located southwest of the village, at an altitude of 372  m above sea level. NN . On the mountain, from which one has an excellent view, there is a hut belonging to the Palatinate Forest Association , a mountain cross and - on its eastern flank - a chair lift, which has now been decommissioned and dismantled . It is a popular place for hikers , walkers and mountain bikers . The latter will find a number of single trails on the mountain .

Another local recreation area is the Glashütte Weiher north of Rohrbach in the direction of Spiesen . A circular path leads around the water in a scenic area. The "Lindenbrunnen" is located in the forest near the pond.

Economy and Infrastructure

Companies

Many medium-sized companies have settled in Rohrbach. The world's largest plant of Esslingen-based Festo AG & Co. KG and the Festo Lernzentrum Saar GmbH are located in the "Rohrbach-Geistkirch" industrial park . Due to the headquarters of these two companies, the district has the most jobs in the medium-sized town of St. Ingbert.

The largest industrial park with an area of 390,000 square meters is located southwest of Rohrbach and extends in a westerly direction to the vicinity of the St. Ingbert glassworks site. The western part of this area, the former site of Kléber Colombes, Reifen und Technische Gummiwaren AG, is to become an area for small and medium-sized companies according to the development plan. In the eastern area, in Rohrbach-Süd, Poensgen-und-Pfahler-Str. and Im Reihersbruch between 2001 and 2004 the St. Ingberter GewerbegeländeEntwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (GGE) developed and sold around 50,000 square meters of commercial site. A number of new companies have now settled there and many new jobs have been created.

Another industrial area is "Rohrbach-Mühlstraße".

traffic

The old east-west connection Paris-Mainz, the Kaiserstraße , runs through Rohrbach . It is part of the federal highway 40 .

The best way to get to Rohrbach today is via its own junction on federal motorway 6 , which runs parallel to the old Kaiserstraße.

The Würzbachbahn , which began in Schwarzenacker , was opened to Hassel in 1866 and a year later it was connected directly to St. Ingbert. The so-called Hasseler Tunnel was created between Hassel and St. Ingbert . However, the latter had proven to be unsuitable from a strategic point of view, which is why the said route between Würzbach and St. Ingbert was re-routed. Rohrbach should get a train station. The bypass route including the train station was opened in 1895. Today it lies on the Mannheim – Saarbrücken railway line and is the western terminus of the Landau – Rohrbach railway line .
