Heinrich I. (Zweibrücken)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich I von Zweibrücken († 1228 ) was the first count of the County of Zweibrücken that was newly created between 1182 and 1190 due to an inheritance from the County of Saarbrücken .

Life

Heinrich was the younger of the two sons of the Count of Saarbrücken , Simon I , whose territory also included Zweibrücken Castle . While Simon II was given Saarbrücken as the elder, Heinrich as the younger received the eastern parts of the area with Zweibrücken as well as Linder , Saargemünd and Mörsberg . In addition, parts of the area near Worms also belonged to the county of Zweibrücken .

Heinrich first appeared in a document as Count von Zweibrücken in 1190 when he signed a contract with King Heinrich VI. In it he sold the bailiwick Dirmstein to the empire. In 1198 he signed an exchange contract with the abbot Wernher of the Hornbach monastery , which brought in the "Gutinberg" and the "Ruperthisberc". Lemberg Castle was built on the former . In the following decades Heinrich was involved or witnessed variously in notarizations and in imperial politics, for example in 1211 when Emperor Otto IV confirmed the rights of the city of Strasbourg , exhibited in the camp near Barletta . In 1224 he accompanied King Henry (VII) to Toul for negotiations with the French King Louis VIII.

Count Heinrich added a lion to his coat of arms as a reference to Saarbrücken origin, but it was red with a blue tongue and a golden shield.

family

Heinrich was married to Hedwig von Lothringen, daughter of Duke Friedrich I of Lorraine . The son Heinrich , called the arguable, succeeded him as Count von Zweibrücken. The daughter Agnes was married to Count Ludwig von Saar Werden, the daughter Jutta to Dietrich von Isenburg.
