The Christ Church is the Protestant parish church in the St. Ingbert district of Rohrbach . It was built as the Saardank Church during the National Socialist era and renamed in 1953. The church belongs to the deanery Homburg in the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate .

history

A church building association founded in 1934 wrote a memorandum to build a "Thank You Church", since the Saar area was to fall back to the German Empire . The Saardank Church was financed by numerous donations ; In terms of building policy, it was similar to the Saar Liberation Church in Beeden.

The certificate of approval for the construction was signed by Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler in 1937 . The groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 1, 1936, on the Franzosenkopf , a wooded hill in Rohrbach, and the church by the architect Otto Reul was inaugurated on September 5, 1937. In January 1938 the four bells were installed. On New Year's Eve 1952/1953 the church went up in flames, which resulted in an extensive renovation. The church was reopened on October 4, 1953. An organ had now been installed and the name had also been changed to Christ Church .

Furnishing

The new church windows were created in 1953 by Erich Buschle (1901–1991). Two round windows in the entrance hall show " Moses and the bronze serpent " and the " Crucifixion ". The eight windows in the nave show the “ Ten Commandments ”, “Wine goblet with grapes”, “Grain ears” and a “white dove”, each with an identical window opposite. The large round window in the chancel shows the " Sermon on the Mount "; The Christ Church is depicted very small under the right hand of Jesus.

The stucco sculptures to the left and right of the altar are by Ernst Hess, they show the " Baptism of Jesus " and the "Fish haul of Peter ".

Main organ

The organ of the church was built in 1954 by Lotar Hintz ( Heusweiler ). In 1976 the organ builder Strothmann ( Saarbrücken ) made changes to the sound and appearance . In 1980 the instrument was renovated by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau (Heusweiler). In 2001/2006 there was a sound and visual redesign by Peter Ohlert ( Kirkel ). The organ, which is set up on a gallery , has 15 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal . A special feature of the organ is the very large distance between the main work and the Rückpositiv .

There is a second organ in the church. The instrument with mechanical grinding chests was built in 1967 by Werner Bosch ( Niestetal - Sandershausen ) for Bad Oldesloe and has been installed in the choir of the Rohrbacher Christ Church since 2001. The organ is privately owned and can be borrowed from the church. In 2003 the Gedackt 8 'was re-intoned and its visual appearance was redesigned by Peter Ohlert (Kirkel).

Bells

The Protestant Christ Church is the only church in the Saarland to have a steel bell from the 1930s, which was constructed by the Bochum Association in the so-called second strike rib . The four-part bell, commissioned in May 1937, was the first cast steel bell to be delivered in what was then the Saar region with this rib, which was incorrectly designed from today's perspective. Back then, in August of the same year, when he examined steel bells for the first time, the bell expert steel certified in his final report: "It is a powerful, majestic, yet full and soft-sounding peal, of which you do not want to miss a single note."

On September 19, 1937 the four bells were inaugurated. In addition to the inscriptions from the Bible, the date of the proclaimed vote of the Saar to the German Empire , which happened on January 13, 1935, was immortalized. The local bell foundry Pfeifer from Kaiserslautern assembled the steel bell cage and steel yokes. During the Second World War and during a church fire on New Year's Eve 1952/1953, the bell remained intact. Both the bell expert at the time, Theo Fehn, and his successor, Volker Müller, demanded by means of an expert report, since tonal deficits were found in connection with the incorrectly constructed octave ribs, an exchange of these steel bells with new bronze bells. The parish held against it for financial reasons.

The steel bell, discussed by many bell experts, is supposed to represent a historical symbol for the beginnings of a minor octave rib of the Bochum Association in the German bell landscape from the interwar period. The entire bell system is controlled by a bell control programmed by Perrot from Calw and an old generation switch box installed by the Lehmann company from Blieskastel, which is currently responsible for maintenance.
