The village of Theley and the creek Theel, which rises on the Schaumberg (a former volcano or fire rock), derive their name from Gallic "the", which means fire. The word ley means rock from Gaulish "lec". Accordingly, Gaulish "the-lec" to "the-ley" or Theley, the rock of fire. (Gallic is the Celtic that was spoken here).
