The FC St. Wendel (officially: Football Club St. Wendel eV ) was a sports club from St. Wendel in Saarland . The first soccer team played for six years in the then third-class Oberliga Südwest and once took part in the DFB Cup .

history

The club was founded in September 1910 and merged in 1934 with the St. Wendel sports association to form SV St. Wendel . This in turn merged in the autumn of 1941 with the TV St. Wendel founded in 1861 and the Reichsbahn TuSV St. Wendel to form the SG Reichsbahn St. Wendel . The SG Reichsbahn was dissolved in September 1945. As the successor club, SV Wendalina St. Wendel was founded, which in 1949 took on the name FC St. Wendel again .

In 1958, the FC rose to the then third-rate Saarland amateur league and in 1960 and 1961 reached fifth place. After relegation in 1965, the team was passed into the district league. In 1970 the FC returned to the 2. Amateur League East and rose in 1974 to the Saarland Amateur League. Three years later, the team won the Saarland Cup with a 1-0 final victory over Saar 05 Saarbrücken . This qualified the team for the DFB Cup, where they were eliminated in the first round against Fortuna Düsseldorf 6-1. In 1978 the FC qualified for the newly created Oberliga Südwest.

There the team reached fourth place straight away in the first season . Three years later, FC relegated to the Saarland Association League and managed to get promoted again directly. St. Wendel secured the championship with the better goal difference compared to the Union Hülzweiler with the same number of points . This was followed by three more senior league years marked by relegation battle, before relegation to the association league in 1985. In 1987 FC went down to the regional league, before relegating to the district league three years later. In 1997 they returned to the national league, from which the team was relegated four years later. Since relegation in 2004, FC St. Wendel entered the district league A. For the 2013/14 season was with the local rivals blue and white SV St. Wendel the syndicate SG St. Wendel founded.

Successor club FC Blau-Weiß St. Wendel

On June 1, 2018, the clubs FC St. Wendel and SV Blau-Weiß St. Wendel merged to form FC Blau-Weiß St. Wendel . For the 2019/20 season, the team was able to secure the championship in the St. Wendel district league and thus promotion to the Northern League.
