Werner Fuchs (born October 25, 1948 in Kaiserslautern , † May 11, 1999 in Aachen ) was a German football player and coach .
career
The center forward began his professional career in 1967 with a professional contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern , where his older brother Fritz was also under contract as a professional. However, Werner Fuchs only played one game at Eintracht Braunschweig on February 10, 1968. This was to be his only appearance in the Bundesliga . He made another attempt in the Bundesliga in 1972 at Hanover 96 , but switched to the regional league team Preußen Münster that same season without being used . Further stations were FSV Salmrohr , Hassia Bingen and FC St. Wendel .
His work as a football coach turned out to be far more successful. In 1990 he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga with Hertha BSC . During his time as a trainer, he made outstanding contributions to Alemannia Aachen and enjoyed a high reputation among large parts of the Aachen population. He coached the Aachen between 1984 and 1987 and from 1996 until his death in 1999. He led the Alemannia to return to the 2nd Bundesliga , but could no longer experience the completion of this success because he was a few days before the championship game in which finally the ascent was sealed, collapsed during a forest run with the Aachen team and died of a heart attack at the age of only 50. To this day, Aachen fans honor him with posters in their stadium.
On Fuchs' tenth anniversary of his death, TSV Alemannia Aachen announced that, in memory of Fuchs, the new amateur stadium belonging to the new Tivoli would be named "Werner Fuchs Stadium" at the suggestion of the fans. On the twelfth anniversary of his death, the house of the Fan-IG was named after him.
