DFB Cup

The Mittelrhein-Pokal (also called the FVM-Pokal, played as the Bitburger-Pokal since the 2011/12 season) is the association cup of the Mittelrhein Football Association . It is played in five rounds ( knockout system ). The respective pairings are determined by lot . The winner of the Mittelrhein-Pokal automatically qualifies for the DFB-Pokal . In addition to the competition for men's teams, the Mittelrhein Football Association also organizes FVM trophies / Mittelrheinpokale for women, for A to D juniors as well as B and C juniors. The final has always been played in the Sportpark Nord in Bonn since 2012 .

Expiration of the cup

The first main round at FVM level is played with 32 teams. The number of participants 32 is determined as follows:

The clubs from the association's territory that play in the 3rd division and the Regionalliga West are automatically qualified . In addition, there are the top three teams from the district cup competitions in the districts of Cologne, Bonn, Sieg, Berg, Euskirchen, Rhein-Erft, Aachen, Düren and Heinsberg. The team in the lower class has home rights up to and including the semi-finals. An exception are the district cup winners in the first round, who receive home rights as a reward for their title in the first round. All rounds are drawn from a single lottery pot without restrictions. An exception is the first round, in which neither the district cup winners nor teams from the same circle can meet. This does not apply to the higher-class clubs that do not take part in the district cups (3rd division and Regionalliga West). The Middle Rhine Cup will be held in the knockout system . There is one game in each round. When a game is tied after 90 minutes, the game is two 15-minute extended . If after that still no decision has been made, a penalty shoot-out follows . With the introduction of the 3rd division for the 2008/09 season, the participation of second teams from licensing clubs in the cup was suspended. Since then, only one team from a club or a corporation has been allowed to participate in the DFB Cup and thus also in the Middle Rhine Cup.

history

Since the FVM is one of the smaller regional associations in Germany, usually only the cup winners qualify for the DFB Cup. From 1982 to 1993, however, the FVM had two starting places for the DFB Cup every two years, alternating with the Niederrhein Football Association . In 1992, the FVM also received a one-time starting place as a successor.

Thus, in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1992 no cup winners were determined in the FVM, as the winners of the semi-finals were already qualified for the DFB Cup due to the two starting places available.
