The Middle Rhine Cup 2016/17 was the 25th staging in football - Middle Rhine Cup of men, from the Association of Football Middle Rhine organized. The competition was named Bitburger Cup after a sponsor. The winner qualified for the first main round of the DFB-Pokal 2017/18 . In the final, the Bonner SC won 1-0 against SC Fortuna Köln .

The Middle Rhine Cup will be held in the knockout system . There is one game in each round. When a game is tied after 90 minutes, the game is two 15-minute extended . If after that still no decision has been made, a penalty shoot-out follows . The final has been held in the Sportpark Nord in Bonn since 2012 .

For the Mittelrheinpokal 2016/17, the clubs from the association area that played in the 3rd division and the Regionalliga West 2016/17 automatically qualified . In addition, there were the top three teams from the district cup competitions of the districts of Cologne, Bonn, Sieg, Berg, Euskirchen, Rhein-Erft, Aachen, Düren and Heinsberg as well as FC Wegberg-Beeck , the relegated from the Regionalliga West 2015/16 .
