The TuS Mechernich (officially: Gymnastics and Sports Association Mechernich 1897 eV ) is a sports club from the city of Mechernich in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The association operates, among other things, divisions for football , table tennis and gymnastics .
Club history
The club was founded on October 6, 1929 through the merger of the gymnastics club Germania 1897 Mechernich and the SC Sportfreunde 1919 Mechernich . The year in today's club name refers to the founding date of TV Germania.
Football department
In the 1948/49 season , TuS Mechernich played in the so-called Rheinbezirksliga. The Rheinbezirksliga was at that time the highest amateur class in the Middle Rhine area and was located directly below the Oberliga West . The club rose at the end of the season from bottom of the table. TuS Mechernich has played continuously since then. In the 2000s and 2010s, the club initially shuttled between the district leagues A and B of the Euskirchen football district, before advancing to the Mittelrhein district league in 2016. TuS Mechernich plays there in season 3, which essentially covers the Bergheim / Düren / Euskirchen area.
