The Rheinbezirksliga 1948/49 was the third season of the highest amateur soccer class in the Middle Rhine area after the Second World War . The Rheinbezirksliga was below the Oberliga West and divided into two groups. The champions were 1. FC Cologne , which rose to the Oberliga West together with Prussia Dellbrück . Seven other clubs were included in the newly founded 2nd League West and a total of six clubs were relegated. The remaining clubs formed in the following season 1949/50 together with four climbers the single-track Landesliga Mittelrhein .

    The two group winners met on a two-legged basis. 1. FC Köln prevailed against Bayer 04 Leverkusen and rose as champions directly to the Oberliga West.

    As part of the expansion of the Oberliga West to 16 clubs, three further promoters to the Oberliga were identified between the three top league bottom and the second and third placed from the associations Niederrhein , Mittelrhein and Westphalia .
