← 1945/46 Game operations at district level

The Rheinbezirksliga 1946/47 was the first season of a uniform top league for the Middle Rhine area after the Second World War . The area called the “Rhine District” in football at the time essentially comprised the former administrative districts of Aachen and Cologne in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

In the first post-war season 1945/46, only one league operation at the district level with a subsequent final round of the district champions took place in the Rhine district. For the 1946/47 season, 16 clubs founded the Rheinbezirksliga under their own direction , as the Rheinviertel Football Association , the forerunner of today 's Mittelrhein Football Association , did not want to found a single-track league. This led to the fact that in the autumn of 1946, in addition to the Rhine district league, four of the association's district leagues began playing. In December 1946 it was agreed to reintegrate the Rheinbezirksliga into the association's gaming operations. After the end of the season, the first two of the Rheinbezirksliga, VfR Köln 04 rrh, played. andAlemannia Aachen , with the four winners of the other district leagues in a simple point round the association championship and three places in the new Oberliga West . The fourth and fifth placed from this final round, the Eschweiler SG and the Kohlscheider BC , played in another elimination round against Lower Rhine and Westphalian clubs for two more places in the Oberliga West.

A descent from the Rheinbezirksliga did not take place. For the following season, the league was expanded to two seasons.
