The SpVgg Röhlinghausen (full name: Spielvereinigung Röhlinghausen 1913 eV ) is a sports club from the Herne district Röhlinghausen . The first soccer team played in the Gauliga Westfalen between 1937 and 1945 .

history

In 1913 the Spiel und Sport 1913 Röhlinghausen association was founded . In 1924 the club merged with the Ballspielverein 1919 Röhlinghausen and the VfL 1922 Röhlinghausen to form SpVgg Röhlinghausen. The association was closely associated with the Königsgrube colliery . The sporting rise in the following years was closely linked to the Königsgrube colliery. In 1937, the team rose to the Gauliga Westfalen after the game association were able to leave well-known opponents such as Arminia Bielefeld and Preußen Münster behind in the promotion round . Until the end of the Second World War , the Röhlinghausener belonged to this league. In the 1937/38 season, the team took fourth place. The team finished last in the 1939/40 season. Due to the war, however, the descent was suspended. During the season, the team from Strathmannshof, where they played on an ash court , reached a 2-2 draw at series champions FC Schalke 04 . The climax of the Gauliga era was the 1942/43 season , when SpVgg took third place behind Schalke and VfL Altenbögge .

After the end of the war, the Röhlinghausers barely missed admission to the Oberliga West in 1947 . In the relegation round, the game association failed to Hamborn 07 and VfL Witten . Two years later, the association was one of the founding members of the 2nd Division West . After the 1949/50 season, the WFLV withdrew the club's license for financial reasons. The merger with TB Eickel proposed by the association was rejected by a large majority. In the following season, the SpVgg Westphalia champion and managed the direct promotion. At the same time, the game association qualified for the first German amateur championship , where the Röhlinghausen-based team were eliminated in the first round after a 1: 2 at SSV Delmenhorst .

In the 1951/52 season , the sporting descent followed as third last. Numerous regular players left the club, four for VfL Bochum alone ( Duddek , Liebers , Schirrmacher and Sturm ). In 1953 , the game association reached third place in the Westphalia Championship behind VfB 03 Bielefeld and TSV Marl-Hüls , before qualifying for the newly created association league three years later . Here the team did not get beyond midfield positions and was relegated to the national league in 1961. The Königsgrube colliery was closed in the same year. Accompanied by economic problems, I went down to the district class in 1962 and to the district class in 1969.

At the beginning of the 1970s there was a sporting renaissance. After two rises in a row, the game association was back in the state league and only just missed promotion to the association league. The play-off against TuS Eving-Lindenhorst with the same number of points was lost 0: 1 in front of 8,000 spectators in the neutral Langendreer . Until 1978, the Röhlinghausener still held in the state league, before the team was initially relegated to the district league and in 1996 to the district league A.

Since relegation in 2004, the Röhlinghausen-based team have been playing in the Herner Kreisliga B. In the 2019/20 season, the team was bottom of the table with just three points. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic , the season was canceled and relegation was suspended.
