The SSV Delmenhorst was a sports club from Delmenhorst . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest amateur league in Bremen and 13 years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony.

The association was founded in 1900 by a group of students. The team was first class in the 1919/20 season when they played in the Bremen district league. From 1927 the SSV returned in the top division, which was initially called the Weser / Jade regional league and later the Weser / Jade Oberliga . A highlight of this era was a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen .

After the Second World War , the SSV first played in the amateur league Bremen , moved to the amateur league Lower Saxony -West in 1949 . In 1951 the SSV was runner-up and qualified for the German amateur championship with a 3-1 win in the decider against TSG Osterode . There they managed a 2-1 win over SpVgg Röhlinghausen in the round of 16 , before Delmenhorster failed 3-2 at Cronenberger SC in the quarter-finals .

Just three years later, the SSV managed to stay in the league only because VfB Oldenburg made it to the Oberliga Nord . In 1956, the actual relegation to the amateur league 2 followed , from which the team rose again two years later. In the 1961/62 season, the SSV was runner-up and qualified after two playoffs against Teutonia Uelzen for the league promotion round. There the team was last and missed the class jump.

In 1964, the SSV missed the single-track Lower Saxony state league and played in the midfield of the fourth-class Verbandsliga West for a few years . In 1973 the SSV occupied a relegation place. On July 13, 1973, the SSV merged with long-time local rivals FC Roland and VSK Bungerhof to form SV Atlas Delmenhorst .
