Football Association League Lower Saxony (1964 to 1979)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lower Saxony Association League was the second highest division in men's football in Lower Saxony between 1964 and 1979 . It was settled on the fourth and then on the fifth highest level in the German league system until 1974.

Story and mode

The association league was introduced in 1964 as a substructure for the regional league . The four seasons were cut strictly according to district affiliation. For example, clubs from the districts of East Friesland and Stade played in the Association League North , in the Association League West clubs from the districts of Oldenburg and Osnabrück , in the Association League East clubs from the Braunschweig and Heide districts and in the Association League South clubs from the Hanover and Hildesheim districts . Each federation league relay played with 16 teams.

In the first two seasons, the association league champions were allowed to climb directly into the national league. However, after it turned out that a regional league with 18 teams was difficult to organize in terms of time, the regional league was reduced to 16 teams in 1966. As a result, the four league champions identified two promoted players in a promotion round. From 1973 to 1975 the runners-up were allowed to take part in the promotion round, which was then played in two groups of four. The eight district leagues, the champions of which were promoted to the association league, formed the foundation for the association leagues. Accordingly, two teams were usually relegated from each association league.

A special feature was the regulation that there must be at least one division gap between two teams from the same club. In 1967 the second amateur team from Hannover 96 was not allowed to move up into the association league because the first amateur team played in the regional league. In 1971 the amateur team of VfB Oldenburg had to relegate to the regional league as the reigning champions of the Verbandsliga Nord, as the professional team was relegated to the regional league.

In 1979 the Association League was abolished. The state league as the highest division of Lower Saxony was renamed the association league. The two-track national league was the new substructure .
