Germania Wilhelmshaven was a sports club from Wilhelmshaven . The first soccer team played for eight years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony.

history

The association was founded on March 8, 1893 as Arbeiter-TV Germania Wilhelmshaven . Football was still played in ATV in the 19th century, which was unusually early for a working class club . In 1911 a football department was founded that took part in the games of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB). Eleven years later, Germania secured the district championship in Hanover, but failed in the first round of the German ATSB championship with 0: 3 at BV Kassel 06 . In 1924, Germania lost 3-0 in the final of the North German championship Lorbeer Hamburg . After the National Socialists came to power , the association was banned. The successor was the TV Adler Wilhelmshaven , which was successful in handball . Shortly after the end of the Second World War , TV Adler became TSV Germania .

In 1946, Germania failed to move into the newly created Oberliga Niedersachsen-Nord due to a 2-5 defeat in the playoff against VfL Oldenburg . In 1949 the team was one of the founding members of the Amateur League 1 , from which they were promptly relegated with 5:51 points. It was not until 1955 that he returned, which was followed two years later by promotion to the then second-class amateur league West . There they met local rivals TSR Olympia , whom Germania was able to leave behind for the first time in 1961 as fourth. A year later, the sporty zenith was reached with third place. After some top performers left the club, Germania was last in 1964 and were relegated to the Association League North .

In 1966, Germania secured the relay championship after a 1-0 play-off win against TSV Ottersberg and made it to the Lower Saxony state league in the promotion round . Germania returned to the district class three times in a row. In 1972 Germania merged with SpVgg 05 to form SV Wilhelmshaven .
