VfB Wilhelmshaven

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VfB Wilhelmshaven was a sports club from Wilhelmshaven . The first soccer team took part once in the finals for the North German Championship. Predecessor club Marine SC Wilhelmshaven was North German runner-up in 1917.

history

The club was founded in 1907 as Marine SC Wilhelmshaven . Under the leadership of Grand Admiral Hans von Koester , then General Inspector of the Imperial Navy , the MSC was one of the strongest clubs in the region. Already in 1908 they became district champion, but failed in the quarter-finals of the North German championship at Bremer SC . Two years later, the MSC successfully took revenge, but lost the semi-finals against Eintracht Braunschweig 2-5. The sporting breakthrough came in 1917, when the Wilhelmshaven team reached the North German final after a 4-2 win over Marine SC Cuxhaven and a 7-2 win over Eintracht Braunschweig. Here, however, Borussia Harburg retained the upper hand with 4-1.

After the end of the First World War , the Marine SC became VfB Wilhelmshaven. This played from 1921 first-class western district league , later district league Weser / Jade . In 1923 Wilhelmshaven became the master of the jade relay. The final of the district championship was lost against VfB Komet Bremen 3-0, but the Wilhelmshaven team still qualified for the North German championship. Here VfB lost to Eintracht Braunschweig 0: 4.

In the spring of 1924, VfB merged with FC Deutschland Wilhelmshaven to form Wilhelmshavener SV 06 . This merged on August 21, 1939 with VfL 05 Rüstringen to form Wilhelmshaven 05 , which finally merged with Germania Wilhelmshaven on July 19, 1972 to form today's SV Wilhelmshaven .
