history

On July 18, 1904 founded disaffected members of FC Viktoria Harburg to FC Borussia Harburg . In 1907, FC Viktoria joined Borussia. Three years later, Borussia won their first title with the championship in North Hanover. With a 1-0 win over Bremer SC , the Harburgers were able to qualify for the North German Association League in 1913 , in whose only season the team was able to occupy seventh place. During the First World War , the club was able to significantly strengthen its team and benefited from the fact that there was an important war industry in Harburg. In 1917, Borussia won the North German Championship after a 4-1 final victory over Marine SC Wilhelmshaven .

Three years later, the team was again in the North German final. The opponent this time was Arminia Hannover . Eight minutes before the end of the game, the score was 1: 1, until the Harburgers let themselves be irritated by an airplane flying over the field . The Hanoverians took advantage of this and scored the winning goal. During the 1920s, Borussia fell behind their local rivals lawn sport and was only able to qualify for the North German finals in 1923. It was not until 1932 that Borussia could again become champions of North Hanover, but failed in the final group to Arminia Hanover.

In 1933, Borussia was missing when the Gauligen was introduced , but one year later it made it to the Gauliga Lower Saxony. There the team managed a surprising 4-2 win against Werder Bremen , but also a 0-10 defeat at Hannover 96 . In 1937 the team had to change to the Gauliga Nordmark under the Greater Hamburg Act . Two years later, Borussia would actually have been relegated as the penultimate. Because of the outbreak of the Second World War, however, the team remained in the Gauliga. The descent followed in 1941.

After the end of the war, Borussia couldn't get beyond the Hamburg amateur leagues. In 1949 Borussia was relegated to the third division. It was not until 1954 that they were promoted to the then second-rate Hamburg amateur league , which could only be held for two years. In 1965 he returned to the Hamburg Oberhaus, where Borussia finished the round tied with local rivals Lawn Sport and TSV Sasel . In the play-offs, a 1-0 win by lawn sport resulted in Borussia being relegated directly.

After only one year, Borussia rose again and this time was able to establish itself. On March 12, 1970, Borussia merged with local rivals lawn sport to form Harburger SC , which was relegated at the end of the season from the Hamburg upper house, now called the Landesliga . Ten years later, Borussia's former sports field had to give way to a retirement home . Former members of Borussia founded FC Borussia 1981 Harburg in 1981 , which disbanded four years later.
